A Little Bit About Me
The name is Nishaallen Gopal Dass . 19 Years Old .Currently doing my First Year Second Semester . A normal Universiti Teknologi Petronas student who is pursuing his Bachelor Degree in Information Technology. Not very fancy with the codings but totally a computer and techy stuff geek. But trying my best to cope with the programming subjects. In addition , Madam Emy isn't a new face for me , madam used to teach me FOP I once. Thats all for now , youre welcome
Goal & Expectation
Obviously like everyone else , my goal for this subject is an A or at least A- . I seem to love this subject alot since I've entered the lab. Not to mention the lecture too. Its really effective how both my lab tutor and also my lecturer is approaching a topic with a light pressure which results in a good mutual understanding.
My Expectation for this subject is really very simple . Hopefully I score all my tests , Ace the assignments and also getting full marks for this portfolio assignment , getting good coursework marks and finally go full force on the gamechanger which is the FINAL EXAM.

WEEK 2
In The first week we didn't manage to start the class yet due to some unexpected barriers , so there is nothing to talk about week 1. I guess . Since we started everything from week 2 , lets kick off this blog with the elements of what we have been lectured during week 2.
Basically what we have learned on week 2 was about the introduction or a brief overview about Data & Information Management course. Off the record , mostly what we were enlightened about the course was about managing datas and informations which are used in databases in our daily lives. The class was very meaningful and looking forward for the next week lecture and Lab. I just hope my lecturer is not like the picture below :'| . Just kidding haha.

WEEK 3
Week 3
We
learnt the concept of using ERD which stands for entity relationship
diagram. At first, I didn't understand what was ERD diagram because its very complicating and
confusing. After 1 hour of class, Dr. Emy made an activity where
we have been given a different kind of topic that we have to come out
with ERD diagram.
And the next thing we knew was to find another partner of what topic we got , which was personal computer. Then , when it was our turn to present , my team mate went to the front to present it and everything went smooth and silk . In the end of the day , my groupmates and me really got a close up knowledge on what is an ERD.
WEEK 4
Madam Emy had informed us in week 3 that we wont be having lectures in week 4. So we didnt have any lecture on that week for DIM , but we have an assignment for ERD diagram which have 5 exercises and its a group task.Plus , this is when the Lab started to kick in. Honestly , the lab session really helps me out about what DIM is really about and when or how to implement it on a regular basis.
Im just really grateful for getting a good lab tutor for my lab session , she really could explain us with full details. Looking forward for the upcoming lab.

Week 5 & 6 - NORMALIZATION
For week 5 and 6 , The main things which we were munching on was Normalization. Normalization is typically a refinement
process after the initial exercise of identifying the data objects that
should be in the database, identifying their relationships, and defining the tables required and the columns within each table. In short , in the process of transforming an unnormalized table into a more better and systematic table.
I also learned about dependencies in a table. There are 2 types of dependencies , Partial dependency and transitive dependency. Partial dependency is there when a primal attribute is dependent on a non-primal attribute . While Transitive dependency is there when a non-primal attribute is dependent on another attribute which is the same type. The main goal of Normalization is to transform a unnormalized table to be a 3NF

Week 7 & 8
Well, Deepavali came and just went away in a snap. There was a test on Sunday and yeah we're done with celebration and went through the notes.Done with the test and I used up a lot of entities
which were given there and draw my ERD .Hopefully its all taken care of well. I didnt know if im
doing the correct thing but i know half of it was eventually correct. So
i decided not to change my answers and go on with it.
Now we have gone to a new chapter which was about Relational Algebra. Relational algebra is a procedural query
language, which takes instances of relations as input and yields
instances of relations as output. It uses operators to perform queries.
An operator can be either unary or binary.
This topic uses symbol like projection, selection, cross
product,set-difference and union to modify the data given. The symbols
are quite known and it was easy for us to remember. According to the lab
session, it was not that tough as i thought. She gave us exercises and
taught us how to do it. After doing it, we can just submit to her by
mail or wikispace. We do not need to crack our mind because Miss Halimah
was always there to help us in many ways. The exercises for relational
algebra was just perfect enough to move on.

Week 9 & 10 -
This week we have learned about SQL. It was kind of coding but in a decent and systematic form. It wasn't that hard but it was managable . SQL or Structured Querry Language is a special-purpose programming language designed
for managing data held in a relational database management system
(RDBMS), or for stream processing in a relational data stream management
system (RDSMS).
At first it was abit complicated but then after attending the lab , many things has been explained carefully and now I understand all of them. Not to say all but can say like 90%. Haha
